OLDER NEWS

12/1

Life goes on...

The site's been updated with all that history I didn't get done for the last lot. 67 posts, requiring a new archive page to store them. We're up past 1600 posts now, across 15 pages.

In addition, the Christmas Tree screenshots have been added to the OOCness page, there's a new bio for Alkina, and the Sparkle and Nimbus of Power spells have been added to the Magery spell listings. There's also a screenshot of a pier on the Housing page.

It's the New Year

Things have been busy for me IRL, so there hasn't been much in the way of updates. Which isn't to say that updates haven't been happening...

So sayth Hawke:

For those who have desired more space and more options for your housing, Christmas comes early this year:

Introducing Piers and Docks for those who like the ocean breeze! If you live appropriately close to the sea, you may purchase a short pier for your house for 50,000 gold coins. If that is too rich for your blood, purchase a smaller docking Platform for a mere 20,000 gold coins. Placement will be at the GM's discretion!

Ocean life not for you? Prefer solid ground over the crashing waves? Why not dig down deeper with your very own Basement for your house! For a full-blown HOUSE you can have a 9x9 tile basement, or any shape that amounts to around the same number of tiles in total. This is expensive at 150,000 gold coins. If you own a CONDO, purchase a smaller 6x6 basement for 120,000 coins. One basement per account, not per character.

Pricey? Yes. This is not something you need. This is something that's being made available since players have asked for it, but it adds a significant number of tiles and increases the chance for blackholing, so the steep price will hopefully serve to keep that in check. If not, we reserve the rights to move or remove troublesome basements (with a refund, of course).

Finally, on containers:

Container Limits are being removed. Almost. There will no longer be a max limit on 3 + 2 containers, but the number of containers will be kept "within reason". Don't line the wall of your house with 40 chests. It won't fly. Also, extra containers will remain as gold sinks, but at a significantly reduced price; 10,000 gold coins per extra container beyond the first three free. The expection to this are bookshelves. Since they have such limited room to place items in they only cost 5,000 gold coins. No refunds on already purchased containers.

Now, for the added twist: All extra containers must be provided by you, and will not be provided by GMs. Yes, that means seek out a player carpenter or tinker.

We hope you enjoy the added options, and happy holidays!

The bug with the skill reduction stone and Taming has been fixed also. And the portable copy pens sold by scribes seem to be working properly now too.

Smelting has been changed, so that items to be melted down are targetted by the smith. That should reduce the number of blacksmiths smelting their own pants off by accident.

GM tinkers can now make jewelry from the coloured metals. Ingot requirements seem to be the same as for the gold ones. Pictures will follow as time permits.

And there's a new Potion of Dispulsion, also brewed by GM alchemists. This one is apparently to help out those people who can cast spells like Polymorph but not Dispel, thanks to the magery skill limits. Interestingly, this one stacks, although the other potions don't.

There's also been a Downloads page added, to make it easier to get necessary or useful files.

History and other sectional updates will be forthcoming as time permits and work winds down for me after the holiday rush.

Little to report...

After all the entertainment of last week, things were pretty quiet this time around. A bit of updating IC posts, a new Bio for Isobell, and a bug in the skill reduction stone.

According to Kevson it's probably better to avoid using it on the Taming skill, after it was discovered that it reduced Taming by over 20 instead of by 1. Apparently the other skills work properly.

3/12

An interesting week...

On the site housekeeping side, the History is updated, there's a new portrait for Rowan in the Bios section, the Advertising page has been heavily edited and rearranged to work like the History and Bios section, and the Carpentry page has a whole bunch of updates, both to previously listed stuff which has new requirements and new items that hadn't been listed there previously.

On the Rules side of the game, Hawke posted some guidelines for dealing with imprisonment. Remembering a prior case or two, it was probably overdue. I'd suggest reading them to all and sundry.

On the Definitely Interesting note, Candyman posted some of his working stuff for his Real Britannia map project. It's still going, although the site's a bit outdated.

Real Britannia - click to see larger image

And finally, on the Really Weird front, it seems that whoever's behind EA's Samurai Empire has been snaffling plots from Legacy. If anyone else knows why Belo Ondariva of the Lands of the Feudal Lords, from the Lands of Lord Menton plotline run on Legacy several years ago has shown up, in the Lands of the Feudal Lords, on the official EA servers, I'm curious. *grins*

26/11

Lots of Updates.

The History section has been updated again.
More additions to the Uniques page.
Updated profile for Rivan, with new pictures added for Ebony, Isadora, and Kerowynne.
A lot more info has been added to the Carpentry page. However there's still more to go as I gain the skill to make the items. And hints that some of the info already posted might be changing soon...

On the minus side, there's a request from Trithemius that the box in the library is for books to be added to the shelves, not for any junk people feel like dumping in it.

-Paulon

20/11

A Wedding!

The long awaited wedding of Warder and Elora has taken place, in a glade in the forest. To the amazement of all, nothing went wrong. Pictures of the event can be seen here.

5/11

Plenty of History and Other Stuff.

There was a cooking page update a few days ago, courtesy of copying from Maki once more, and the history section has been updated again, with a whole new page to store everything.

There are also two new books in the Lycaeum section, from Rivan and Leon Hart. There's a permanent link from there to Aryceillan's information about IC book submissions also, so that doesn't get lost in the history section.

Another Unique weapon has been added too. This one has its own history courtesy of the Lycaeum.

It looks like Inscription has had some work done on it by the GMs. The old scrolling menu has been replaced by a nice gump.

More IRC and Cooking!

It's only been a few days, but there have been some updates anyway. Stratics has released new IRC information, relayed to me by thehawk.

Stratics:

At present, many people are reporting difficulties in connecting to the Stratics IRC servers. The official stable servers are listed in the table below.

Note that the IRC default port, 6667, is not an option for any of these servers. The ports listed below are those which are open for use.

To connect, set up a new server value from the list below, and set the port from the default to 6668 or 7000, and try connecting to that. The Legacy players all swear by it.

Server name Server Location Available Ports
stratics.frws.com USA - Colorado 6668, 7000
irc.glowfish.de EU - Germany 6668, 7000
stratics.afraidyet.net USA - Texas 6668, 7000
irc.epaxsys.net USA - Colorado 6668, 7000

Cooking:

Maki has done a whole new batchload of cooking updates to her page, which have been locally mirrored here. Good luck finding that new vendor person. :-)

In addition to those major details, the History section has been updated again, as has the Lycaeum page, with a book about combat magic from Rivan.

8/10

Updates: History and IRC.

Stratics:

At present, many people are reporting difficulties in connecting to the Stratics IRC servers. The official stable servers are listed in the table below.

However, observational evidence from the Legacy players is that the IRC default port, 6667, has completely failed on every one of those servers. Despite this, the remaining port values appear to be working.

In short, to connect, set up a new server value from the latter three in the list, and set the port from the default to 7000, and try connecting to that. The Legacy players all swear by it.

Server name Server Location Available Ports
irc.frws.com USA - Colorado 6667
irc.glowfish.de EU - Germany 6667, 6668, 7000
stratics.afraidyet.net USA - Texas 6667, 7000
irc.epaxsys.net USA - Colorado 6667, 6668, 7000

In addition to this information, added to the IRC page also, there has been another weeks worth of history updates.

-Paulon

2/10

The usual round of updates.

Hopefully people will notice the additions to the menu bar to the left. Player advertising, the Unique Items page, and an alphabetical rearrangement of the Skills pages, with the addition of a cooking page. Not much there yet, but it'll come, thanks to Maki and her experimenting with the system.

Some more details of the Wis-Sur's Transmute spell are available too. Enjoy.

The History has been updated again too. Lots of that done. Seems things are happening ingame.

-Paulon

25/9

Site updates. New Skill Info!

There've been plenty of updates to the skill pages. New items, missed items, new information available, and so on. The pages updated were Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Bowcraft, Mining, Tailoring, and Tinkering. See if you can find the new stuff. *grins*

It looks like the new cooking system is running. People are finding out things about it, but as yet not much information has come back to me as feedback. There do seem to be a few bugs in it as yet, but by and large people seem enthusiastic. If I ever get enough info to work on it, I'll have to make a page for the skill now.

On the Ingame News front, the notorious Alex Reeves is dead. Plenty of reactions to that in the History section.

GM Message Posted by Hawke.

Attention craftsmen! And craftswomen, too!

So you're a crafts...person. You have the ability to make items out of other items and sell them for a profit. This is a cool thing, and you can even make money off other players, not just NPCs. This can create interesting RP opportunities as well, as I'm sure most people have noticed. A fine example, if I may say so, is the Archer's Companion, where business always involves RP.

To me, those are all good things. Lately I've noticed a trend that surfaces every now and then, sadly; craftsmen giving out their goods for free. Now, this may seem innocent enough... helping out others can't be a bad thing... right? Unfortunately, it is. Since we're such a small community, if one smith starts giving out armor for free, it pretty much nullifies any chance other smiths have to make money off players and all the RP opportunities that come with it. Same goes for bowyers, tamers, etc etc. That can't be seen as a good thing by me.

So, I'm asking those of you who have been doing this to please reconsider, no matter the trade in question. It does nothing but hurt the game as a whole.

On Another Note...

The Followers of the Black Dragon are going on a recruiting drive. If you're interested in lots of money and working for one of the more interesting folks ingame, stop past the Ads page and take a look at the offer.

History pages have also been updated. Only four posts in two days? We're slipping. :-P

Magery Updated

Kevson announced some pretty major changes to the Magery skill this week. Here's the gist of it.

From now on, spells have a magery requirement to cast, of 10 times the spell circle, plus 10. Thus a 1st circle spell now needs 20 magery to cast, while an 8th circle spell needs 90 magery.

However, using a wand has no skill requirements, while using a scroll needs 20 skill less than the amount needed to cast the spell from the spellbook.

There are several exceptions to this rule however. The spells Blink/Teleport, Recall, Mark, Gate, and Resurrection all bypass both sets of new restrictions on spells. The Summon and Polymorph spells are also not limited by magery skill to cast them, as the spells already have magery based limits on what they can do.

The second limit, alluded to above, is on armour. Wearing armour causes a chance to fail at any casting. The fail chance is described as being comprised of the sum of the fail chances for each piece of armour worn, which varies with both the armour type and location. Obviously platemail is the worst. However the transport spells and Resurrection spell aren't affected by this limit.

The Magery pages have been updated to cover this change.

On other fronts, there's a new profile for Kenneth Bluefang, a book in the Lycaeum about wandmaking by Leon Hart, and another large dose of archiving done, resulting in a new page being needed to hold all the IC stuff posted. No modifications to skill pages other than the Magery ones so far though. Busy week coming up, so they might take a while.

-Paulon

11/9

More updates.

I finally got the chance to sit down and do the archiving. 103 new posts since the last time.

An addition to the Advertising page... Raulf is a sword for hire.

And on the Biography front, new profiles for Ebony, Isadora, and Montgomery, while Leon Hart's bio has been updated.

There seem to have been more craft skill modifications, especially to Alchemy. Updates to the relevant pages will happen as time permits.

-Paulon

Another month. Map Update!

There has been an update to the Cartography skill. A new map, giving the correct locations of shrines, dungeons, and adding markers for interesting sites is now available. You can obtain it here.

More gumps have been added, this time to wandmaking, replacing the prior drab menus. They seem to be easier to use. There's also been a page added to give a bit more info about making wands.

Unfortunately workload has prevented me updating the archives or adding a couple of new profiles, but that will be happening soonish. I don't want the To Do pile to get much bigger. *grins*

30/7

It's been a month, but things have been happening.

Plenty of roleplaying going on, quests being run, and so forth. See the Archives for the posts and logs.

There's a brief new character bio for Icolan.

Behind the scenes there have also been some updates to various gumps and menus. The Moonstone has a nice new interface, and the Alchemy system has a new set of menus also.

Legacy has been running for 4 years!

It seems hard to believe that the server has been running so long, from its origins as UDUO, to the modern Legacy. But it's still here and still going. And we're also still waiting for Sphere 1.0. *grins*

In other news, details on the new Free Action potion have been added to the Alchemy page, and similar data has been added to the Magery pages about the Nystul's Dismissal spell now available from vendors.

There's been a profile update for Dravyn Darkmoor, and the history has been updated too.

-Paulon

Site Updates

The usual archiving has been done, getting the most recent IC posts stored for posterity. It's noteworthy that we passed the 1000th post mark since I started keeping posts in numeric order rather than a descriptive name based on title or contents. It was Shadow Of Light who hit the big 1000th post mark. Congratulations.

Tailoring has been updated a little. We now know it takes 90 tailoring to work direwolf pelts into fur. Thanks to Rivan there are also a few new images of direwolf fur items.

Also added are two new character profiles, Natasja and Indiira Dorett. Enjoy the reading.

Regarding imprisonment, and other OOC/IC assumptions.

I must admit I'm baffled that I even have to post this.

Unless otherwise noted, it should be assumed you're being treated humanely. Unless you intend to stay logged on with your imprisoned character 24/7, then you can assume you're being fed and taken care of. If you have any questions regarding your treatment, then ASK, rather than assuming you have certain privileges or abuses being visited upon you.

We don't assume that you spit on the guards, so don't assume they're starving you.

Likewise, and this may not have been as well known, but regarding paperwork:
If you want to look something up, the charges filed against someone, PLEASE consult a GM first. Using books ingame would be an inconsistent and potentially buggy way of handling it, and saying "I looked for this NPC" doesn't cut it unless there was a GM to play that NPC in the first place.

Basically, before you assume an extreme, or think the lack of an in-game representation translates to an IC missing step, always consult a GM. Again: When in doubt, make the assumption that fits best with experience and common sense, and check with a GM.

In the future, if someone makes a "big" assumption without checking with us, we are by no means obligated to "retcon" it- go back and allow them to revise their statements. This can quickly make things bad for your character!

-GM James

22/5

Lots of Archiving.

I've finally had the chance to sit down and archive the recent history. All 123 posts of it. Enjoy.

I've also added the Plot Summaries to the history section on their own page.

-Paulon

Generic Updates...

Couple of new bios, Cerces, Canto Vates, Myrna, and Sarelyn. More Moriens portrait artwork, Aryceillan, Sir Chlorthos, Dravyn Darkmoor, Fela, Laurant, Richard Ghlade, Rivan, Sarelyn and Sol Silverglade.

No direct updates to the History section as yet, since time's been short the last few weeks, but there's a discussion thread about ongoing and past plotlines on the Horizons board here. The posted information will be archived eventually, as soon as I have time for it.

And the Great News!

Both Darkheart and Candyman have returned to activity in Legacy. DH is looking to taking back hosting at some point in the near future, and Candy already has made himself visible, with reports of an attempted murder of him by a player. Welcome back!

-Paulon

New Character Artwork

Moriens, the brilliant uber-artist, has turned his hand to some character portraits, which have been added to the individual entries in the Bios section. Currently they exist for Aliai, Cordain, Donovan, Elora, and Warder.

Little Tailoring Update

Houston: Normal mage robes, embroidered ones, and noble tunics can now be made by skilled player tailors =)

What info we have has come from Maki again, with some images and data about both the last update and the new items, on the updated Tailoring page.

In other news, the History is updated as usual. There's a new Profile, for Soeric Vo. Advertising has been updated with Elora's new purchasing prices.

-Paulon

Skillcap!

After careful discussion, and review, we will be implementing a skill cap into Ultima Legacy within the following week. The skill cap will be set at 1250.0 total skill points, and we will be reviewing and adjusting the available skill gain rates as needed for a more appropriate balance under this new system.

In the meantime, all players are recommended to visit the tunnels outside of Dawn, where there is a Stone of Skill Reduction that will allow you to set any selected skill to 0.0, or to reduce them by an increment of 1.0. If a character is over the available skill cap limit, they will receive a message warning them whenever they attempt to access their bank box, purchase training in a skill, or buy/sell from a vendor in the game, before finally being locked out until they've reduced their skills.

If anyone has any questions, or needs an explaination on how to adjust their skills, please ask in the IRC #Legacy-Official channel, or page in game, and we will be happy to help. =)

-Houston

27/3

Updates...

Jhelom seems to be quite the place to stay away from, as some people sailing a ship too close got attacked with cannon fire. The Shrine of Valor is sealed off with a wall and assorted traps too. Visiting is not recommended.

There's a page added with information about some of the items found in the Dungeon Covetous. Now you can find out just what's known about some of the odder items, and what they can be used for. Check it out here.

-Paulon

16/3

New Tailoring Items.

Seems that HD's been busy. Tailors can now make a new range of winter clothing from dire wolf pelts. In addition, the carapaces of the giant scorpions found in the Serpent's Spine can now be made into a range of smaller clothing pieces. The new armour needs carapace pieces, scorpion stingers and iron wire as resources. Details will be added to the Tailoring page as they come to light.
You may thank Maki for what we know so far, including resources needed and item pictures.

-Paulon

9/3

Legacy IP Change.

So much for the reports of competancy from HD's ISP... They changed his IP, and haven't told him why. Go figure.

Please update your login.cfg file located in the main Ultima Online installation directory with the following:
Loginserver=207.69.16.88,2593

Alternately you can download Warder's preedited version to unzip into your UO directory here.

The main download of the client for new players is already updated.

Also done some history archiving and added a new profile for the mysterious Rivan who's been seen wandering around Britain and other places.

-Paulon

3/3

Legacy is back up.

The Server came back up on Schedule. It's nice to see HD's ISP being competent this time around. :-)

Some minor site updates. Mojo's profile updated, the latest IC posts archived, Aurora's ad updated with her reaching GM Tailoring and offering dragonscale armour for sale.

-Paulon

For all UL players: NPC/PC groups

The minimum requirement for joining one of the NPC groups is having been a player for at least 3 months, and being subject to staff approval. Information on the various guilds and groups can be found here:
http://legacy.ultimainfo.net/groups.htm

FYI, any classic Ultima group that hasn't been fleshed out is open for a player proposal on the basic guidelines, which will then be reviewed by the staff for approval. So if anyone is feeling energetic, feel free. =)

-Houston

25/2

For all players: Scheduled downtime - February 28th thru March 1st

I'll be having work done by my ISP to the DSL line to resetup for a new location, so Legacy will be down for this coming weekend, and brought back up at the beginning of the week.

Have a good weekend otherwise =)

-Houston

25/2

General Updating.

New book, history archives updated, the usual story. Lots of discussion about the recent Trial of Cordain, over murder charges. He got let out by the Council after the Druid found him guilty. See the History section for details.

This note on the whole topic of prisoners and their treatment from HD:

If it's sentient (whether humanoid or not), it must surrender verbally or by gesture or be taken in unconscious. The authority in location should formally place the prisoner under arrest by announcing to all those present. Assumption is not legally valid.

In terms and scope of the law, it would include humans, gargoyles, orcs, trolls, cyclops, shapeshifters, hybrids, ettins, nixies, trilkhai, Atarkans, dark rangers, frost people, faeries, goblins, gwani, phoenix, ratmen, lizardmen, dragons, and basically anything else that can later be deemed sentient as a prisoner taken in under arrest.

This will be treated and punished as any other IC law. =)

So obviously next time Cordain won't have any leg to stand on at all...

-Paulon

15/2

For all players: Ultima Legacy Rules of Conduct

The current banditry guidelines still apply, but are in the process of a future revision. Please review these rules of conduct fully, as all players will continue to be held accountable to them. Otherwise, have fun. =)

-Houston

6/2

For all UL players: Small reminder concerning emails

This has come up after a couple of applications being sent in by friends of current players, and/or people being referred, but also applies to anything dealing with Legacy being emailed to myself or other staff members.

Please be sure to include Ultima Legacy into the email message header along with a general description of the topic when sending (ie: Ultima Legacy Application, Legacy Housing Decorations, UL Quest Idea, etc). Given the number of viruses out there, particularly ones with message headers of "Hi", "Hey", "Hello", etc, I know I tend to delete those type of messages automatically and/or have them blocked by spam software.

Please help us out by marking your messages clearly so that we can spot them easily amongst the rest. Thanks =)

-Houston

24/1

Another Update?

I fear so. :-P This is an Advertising Page, where player businesses and services can be recorded. The Legacy board is a bit hard to search, so this will make things easier for newcomers.

Mind you, that doesn't mean people shouldn't keep an eye on the Trading Forum set up by Maki, which was created for exactly the same purpose, and is much easier to update, since you can just post right to it.

I moved a lot of the old news over to the archive too.

-Paulon

23/1

The usual... And a bit more.

The Archives got updated again. Finally split the history section into another new page while I was at it.

HD announced that the quicksilver vials found in Covetous were working properly and now will fix any clothing, armour, or weapon item, and actually increase its hit points afterwards. His statements suggest that there is some sort of potential catch though... but that whatever it is won't damage the item. Any further info would be welcomed.

There's a new NPC group open to players, the New Magincian Guard. Since declaring independance the city needs its own police force. What info there is is on the Joinable Groups page. A new guilds page for the Britannian Merchant League was added too.

-Paulon

16/1

And Onwards we go...

So I updated the Archives. Some nice stuff. Looks like Britannia is in for an interesting time though... between Asfestor the Liche unleashed again, and the plotting of the Hybrids in Minoc against Lord Portiff...

The info about craftable Vambraces has been added to the pages for Tailoring and Blacksmithing as appropriate. Other little updates and such have happened too... go looking if you want to find them. *grins*

New Bio, for Brother Barern. Hopefully I'll be able to get a piccie of him soon.

-Paulon

3/1

And Onwards we go...

The Archives have been updated again. Hopefully I won't end up leaving them to build up into a long job again.

There's also a note on the Wis-Sur's Transmute spell added to the Spells page. A detailed analysis of it's effects should be useful for all those who are curious.

-Paulon

1/1

Happy New Years All!

The Archives have been updated, and there's a new Bio too, for Vorador Meridus. A pity he committed suicide before his profile was updated. *grins*

Darkheart, the original founder of the server, has popped up again from the rigors of RL, and here's hoping we'll be seeing more of him.

We've had a good year, and here's hoping that we'll have as good a time in this new one.

-Paulon

30/12

Happy Holidays .

Work's been interfering with site updates again, but there's a new page in the works, about how to use the really basic stuff in the UO engine. It's not complete yet, but it's a good start. Check out the Interface Page, and feel free to make suggestions for additions.

-Paulon

22/11

Updates Again.

At long last the History section has been updated with all the recent postings. As a result there's an entire new History page in that section just to hold them all.

Some other updates include a new character profile, Gizshaw, an updated portrait for Moriens Garthon, and a substantial and ongoing revamp of the Services page, giving more details and sorting everything there out into some kind of order. It's much more user friendly, and should be checked on by newbies for information.

The Ice Ball spell has been removed due to exploiting behaviour and bugs, and has been replaced with Nicodemus' Ice Serpent, which summons a large fast snake to attack foes. There is also a new spell, Wis-Sur's Transmute Reagents, but details aren't available yet, due to the next point to note...

Which is that the server has been down for the last few days. Unfortunately there've been problems with Houston's ISP being down, and so far they haven't fixed it. He's been hoping "This evening" for the last couple of days...

-Paulon

15/10

News - and plenty of it.

Unfortunately RL stuff has gotten in the way of regular site updates, but life in Legacy has gone on as usual.

There was an Open Session in #Legacy-Official where players could discuss issues and question the staff. The log of this was posted by Houston, and may be found here.

The rules of membership in the Brotherhood of the Rose, the order of Monks of Empath Abbey, have been announced. They may be found on the board.

Mages may now enchant wands. A page detailing the process will be forthcoming soon, as soon as more details come to light on the process. The limited information given by Houston is here. Unfortunately there seem to be some... entertaining... side effects that occur when something goes wrong.

There is a new character profile: Donovan. Two other players have had portraits done for them, Dravyn Darkmoor and Vincent, while Moriens Garthon has updated his biographical data.

General minor points: Treasure found from maps have been updated and made more interesting. A third recall rune may be purchased for 15k gold if a character so desires. The new custom spells have been adjusted, so an update to the Magery pages will be forthcoming. The Order of Venetus Mage's Guild now has its own website, found here.

-Paulon

29/8

News

The results of the Magincian Elections have been announced. The Noble's Seat was won by Lord Steward, the Merchant's Seat by Lady Sophia, and the Britannian Seat by Wis-Sur.

The Tour Page and Cartography Pages have been linked from the sidebar for ease of access.

The new Spells available from the mage vendors have been added to the spell listings under the Magery skill. The Circle levels for most are 'best guesses' based on mana use.

More updates

The Archives of History have been updated. There are some screenshots still to work on, but mostly it's done.
