The
contents of this page describe some of the useful items, goods,
and services available in Legacy.
To
simplify finding relevant information, the lists are broken up into
several categories:
Travel,
items and services involving transport about Britannia.
Weapons
and Armour, new ways to attack and defend oneself.
Clothes,
worn for decoration or protection from the elements.
Miscellaneous
Items, items which do not fit the other categories.
Other
Services, things people can do for you.
OOC
Functionality, things which are useful to a player, but
not considered in character, for bugfixes or similar.
Travel
Shipping:

Passage
from Britain to Spektran, Terfin, Cove and Serpent's Hold is available
from the Britain docks. Erik sells the writs of passage.
Mark
Crystal:

The
Mark Crystal is a glowing greenish crystal, cut into the shape of
a tetrahedron. They may be purchased from mages for 750 gold crowns.
When
used by any individual upon a rune, the crystal has the effect of
a Mark spell upon it. It contains two charges, and the crystal vanishes
when those charges are expended.
Recall
Wands:

These
are for non-mages to use to recall. They are available from mages
for 50 gold per charge, in values of 5, 10, and 20 charges.
Runes:

Runes
are a magical item which may be encoded with a destination by the
use of a Mark spell. By use of the Recall spell, a caster may travel
to the place that the rune was marked, or by use of a Gate spell,
a caster may open a temporary portal to that place.
For
those who lack the skill needed to cast either spell, there are
recall wands available from mages, and for those who cannot mark
the runes, mark crystals may also be purchased.
The
specific details on runes are listed in the Legacy rules here.
In short form, all characters are entitled to two free runes.
You need to page the GMs with the character name and the request.
A third rune is available by paging, but at a cost of 15000 gold
crowns. You are not permitted to mark in a number of locations,
listed in the rules section.
Steeds:
Mystic
steeds are available from the tamer Zalim of Britain, albeit for
a high price.
The
Travel Mage:

In
the jungles north of the Cape of Heroes and southwest of Trinsic
can be found the mad mage Candal, operating a machine that teleports
people to unreachable locations in Britannia [except by purchased
ships] It costs 75gp to use his machine and the trip is only one
way. Those who wish to use the machine are warned to carry with
them a magical means of teleportation to exit the machine's destinations.
Candal's
Tower may be found at 146o51' south, 38o19' east.
Unstable
Moonstone:

These
useful devices resemble a round orb of polished black obsidian.
They were created from the substance of a mysterious meteorite that
struck the island of Terfin. Those with even a modicum of magical
talent may use them to travel to various destinations about Britannia,
though the use of the stones thus consumes both something of the
user's magical energies and the reagents of a Recall spell in the
transport.
Those
mages who reach the power of the Eighth Circle may also open red
moongates to the same destinations as those of lesser skill can
reach. This costs the mage less of his energies than a Gate spell,
and consumes the reagents of said spell in the moongate creation.
Unstable
moonstones may currently be purchased from most mages though they
cost 5000 gold crowns.
To
use the Unstable Moonstone, doubleclick it to open the gump. To
use the Recall function select the Blue Button. To use the Gate
Function select the Red Button. More destinations can be seen
by selecting the arrows above the map. Recall function requires
10 magery, and consumes 1 bloodmoss, 1 black pearl, 1 mandrake
root, and 10 mana. Gate function requires 90 magery, and consumes
1 sulphurous ash, 1 black pearl, 1 mandrake root, and 20 mana.
Weapons
and Armour
Firedoom
Staff:

These
enchanted staves are next to useless for fighting in a physical
manner, but are deadly nonetheless, as they may be used to discharge
bolts of fire upon their weilder's enemies. Such a staff may be
purchased from the Dragonsmith Barthaxiol.
Glass
Sword:

These
enchanted weapons will slay almost any creature with a single blow.
However in so doing the blade shatters, and may not be repaired
thereafter. Glass Swords are occaisionally found in treasure, or
may be purchased from the Dragonsmith Barthaxiol for a very large
sum.
Hook:

Beloved
of pirates, these items are craftable by blacksmiths, with a required
skill of 45. They use the Parrying skill, taking the place of a
normal shield.
Note that Hooks are not smeltable, like most tools.
Lightning
Whip:

The
Lightning Whip may be used to strike at a foe with lightning bolts.
They can be purchased from the Dragonsmith Barthaxiol.
Mage
Staff:

This
orb topped staff can be found in the shop of Horance for 1,500 coins.
It is rumored that the dragon smith also sells a variant, though
at a fierce price.
Main
gauche:

The
Main Gauche is a secondary weapon carried by some dextrous warriors.
It is used to parry blows as much as to inflict damage upon a foe.
Main
gauches cannot do direct damage due to Sphere's engine limitations,
and instead act as a shield using the Parrying skill. They may
be crafted by Blacksmiths at 55 skill.
Necromantic
Staff:

A craftable
item to be released with the Necromancy skill.
Ranger
Armour:
The
Rangers of Skara Brae make their own armour, designed to be light
weight and silent, that they may better move unseen and unheard
in the wilderness. While they refuse to devulge the secret of manufacturing
their armour, it is sold by Laurence of Skara Brae, for a high price,
depending on the size of the piece of armour.
Ranger
Scout Armour:
For
missions that are intended to involve moving quickly or careful
observation rather than combat, the Rangers of Skara Brae sometimes
use lighter armour. Like their more usual gear, this is sold by
Laurance, but the secrets of the crafting are kept silent. Scout
armour is lighter than Ranger armour, but also less protective.
Serpentine
Sword:

The
traditional weaponry of the Library of Scars, these flamberge style
swords can be purchased from Master Syria for 2,500 gold coins.
Tangled
staff:

Crafted
by only the most skilled of carpenters, this gemmed staff is great
for walking, and can be used in self defense, if pressed. It is
rumored that the dragon smith offers its variants, but for a steep
price.
Wizard
Staff:

This
orb topped and gold banded staff can be found in the shop of most
mages for 1,500 coins. Enchanted versions of this weapon are sold
by the Dragonsmith.
Magic
Weapons Vendor:

There
is a Dragonsmith in a cavern in the mountains north of the Dungeon
Wrong. He is bound within the cave, but is still desires to increase
his hoard of treasure. For a price Barthaxiol will sell his wears
to those who dare venture into his lair at 135°36' North, 47°31'
East.

silk and other rare materials. Of course rarity comes with a high
price. The hues they currently sell are Rustic, Sky, Forest, Grape,
Titian, Rose, Midnight, Silver Silk, and Golden Silk.

after purchase if the usual hues do not appeal.
Noble

Trimmed
in gold, these are available from the Exotic tailors in their usual
unique hues.
Noble

A warm,
and well padded tunic available from the Exotic tailors in their

Miscellaneous
Items
Ankh

This
golden emblem of the Virtues may be purchased from Sean of Britain
for around 1300 gold crowns.
Bow
Varnish:
A skilled
bowyer can use these varnishes to rehue a bow. They come in shades
of Mahogany, Shadow, Autumn, Ash, Pearl, and Golden.
There
is a requirement of 65 bowcraft to use these varnishes. Please note
that it is possible to rehue a unique weapon and you do so at your
own risk.
Britannian
Desk Reference:

This
invaluable tome gives information about both reagents and potions,
and aids a mage in tallying how many reagents he currently carries.
Copies may be obtained from alchemists for 1000 gold.
Cauldron
of Wand Empowerment:

These
mysterious devices are used by mages to enchant magical wands. There
are four known to exist in Britannia, placed in mage's shops throughout
the land.
These
cauldrons are not an available player decoration. Their locations
are fixed in Britannia.
Copying
Pen:

Copying
Pens are an invaluable tool for a scribe intent on duplicating the
content of books. They are used to make exact copies of the content
of the book in another tome. The volume to contain the copy must
be provided by the user.
The
scribes keep pens free for use in most collections of books, and
also sell pens with enough ink for 5 volumes to be copied for 1000
gold crowns.
Equipable
Book:

A book
using the spellbook gump, good for someone holding a book they're
writing notes in. Sold by scribes for 1200.
Fireworks:
Alchemists
have begun to carry instructions to fashion strange devices that
harness the power of ash and pearl in some unusual colors. The Tome
detailing the construction of such items is commonly sold for 7500
gold crowns.
Flute:

The
Britain Music Hall has crafted a fine woodwind instrument, and asks
for 750 gold coins for one. Ask for Judith.
Hair
Ties:

These
items, available from barbers for 500 gold crowns, allow the user
to adjust their long hair into several styles, from loose, to a
ponytail, to two pig tails.
Doubleclick
the hair ties to use them. If you have long hair, you have the
option to select a braid or pigtail hair style. If you have either
of the aforementioned styles, you untie your hair and reset it
to the long style.
Hunter's
Necklace:

Craftable
by tinkers, required skill of 55. Uses bear claws, wolf fangs, and
iron wire.
Meditation
Tomes:

A meditation
tome is an enchanted device that aids the holder in regaining magical
energies when held. They may be obtained from Mariah or Zelda in
the Lycaeum for 2000 gold crowns.
To
use a meditation tome you need to equip it in your hands. If you
have 65+ magery (or 65+ necromancy) and 40+ meditation the book
will give an amount of mana dependant on the meditaion skill.
Those
who wish to equip both a meditation tome and a staff can do so
by first equipping the staff, then the book, but should be warned
that a server resync while they are logged out will cause the
book to drop to the ground, and in all probability be lost.
Monocle:

Sold
by scribes for 750.
Pipe:

Sold
by Greg the Britain Provisioner for around 300 gold, these are a
good way to relax.
Ranger
Armour Dyes:
While
the Rangers of Skara Brae keep the secrets of manufacturing Ranger
Armour to themselves, they do sell dyes that allow a skilled tailor
to recolour armour that has been purchased. Various hues, used for
different environments or seasons are available, Original (the usual
colour of Ranger or Scout Armour), Winter, Rustic, Stealth, Formal,
Forest, and Sand.
A
tailor requires 65 skill to use these dyes. The armour to be dyed
must be in their pack.
Skillbooks:

These
ensorcelled tomes are usually found in treasure chests. They grant
the reader insight into a given skill, then vanish without a trace.
When
found the books are typically under a concealing enchantment. This
spell may be penetrated by a skilled scribe (65 skill at inscription),
or by using the Lens of Translation at the Lycaeum. However the
latter requires a substantial (1000 gold crown) donation for the
service.
Once
the enchantment is penetrated, the book takes on another hue, and
its title may be read. Each is unique and quite distinctive.
Note
that once the book is revealed, simply double clicking it will
cause it to give the skill and vanish.

Spectacles:

Sold
by scribes for 1000.
Spellbook
binders:
Available
in different colors, a skilled mage can personally customize their
own spellbooks with these. They are sold in the Lycaeum dormitory
for 40,000 gold crowns, and require 80+ magery to use.
Spells:
There
are several unconventional spells that may be purchased from mages
for use. The present ones are Cordain's Thaw, Nicodemus' Ice Serpent,
Venetus' Ward, Sutek's Swarm, Mariah's X-it, Nystul's Dismissal,
and Wis-Sur's Transmute.
These
scrolls cannot be added to a spellbook due to engine limitations,
and can be lost with other possessions. However they are not consumed
when used, but instead require mana and reagents like any spell
being cast from a book. Details on what each individual spell does
can be found on the Spells
page.
Treasure
Maps:

Found
rarely on various creatures around the lands, these carry great
risk to the would-be treasure hunters, but for those who can track
down the hidden prizes and defeat the guardians, there may well
be great reward.
Treasure
maps may be decoded using the Cartography skill. More details may
be found here.
Waterskin:

A waterskin
is a sealed container in which water may be carried for later use.
They are available from Greg the Provisioner of Britain for 500
gold crowns. A waterskin contains enough liquid for 10 uses.
They
may be used for drinking from, washing bandages, putting out fires,
filling cauldrons, or simply wetting creatures or items. They may
be refilled from wells or fountains.
Waterskins
can only be refilled from wells or the large square fountains
placed in some cities. They cannot be refilled from the round
static fountains using the original UO graphics.
Other
Services
Hiring
an Assassin:

The
Black Circle has always been willing to accept commissions. Of course
dealing with assassins has its own obvious drawbacks, both before
and after the fact...
For the price of 15000 gold crowns, an Assassin can be dispatched
to seek out a specified victim, and attempt to retrieve an item
from him. If the Assassin fails, the hire price is lost. If the
victim loses the combat with the Assassin, then if he is carrying
the item specified in the contract, the Assassin will retrieve it
for the hirer. If he isn't carrying the item, the gold is still
forfeit. Arguing the point with the hired killer is not recommended...
Also
note that hiring an assassin requires dealing with Portiff in Minoc,
which in itself is considered treason.
Town
Criers:
For
a mere 500 gold crowns, the town criers can be paid to advertise
a business for a time.
The
text can be no longer than one whole line of UL text. If you can
say it ingame without having to break it up, so can the town criers.
Out
of Character Functionality
These
items are not In Character in function, but are still available
for players use, whether for skill/stat management, or bugfixes.
Registrar
of Titles:

This
device is usually set up in an official location (presently one
is present in the Mayor's office in Britain, and another in the
Town Hall of Skara Brae). It allows a player to select their own
paperdoll title, for the price of 2500 gold crowns.
To use the Registrar, open the book next to it and set the title
of the book to the desired title of the player. Once the title is
set, close the book and use the Registrar of Titles on the book.
The GMs reserve the right to correct typos and spelling errors,
and if a title is deemed inappropriate it will be removed without
compensation.
Members of the Order of the Silver Serpent, Order of the Rose, Paladins
of Trinsic or similar groups are not permitted to change their titles,
as they are official ranks in their Order. For player guild members,
it depends on the guild policy. (Note that a title set by a guildmaster
using the guildstone overrides a title set by the Registrar.)
Crystal
of Form Restoration:

This
device restores the users true form on the occasion that a Polymorph
spell misfires and permanently affects the caster. It is found in
the Lycaeum.
NB: The Staff will not be amused by people who deliberately select
the wrong gender.
Update: An option to similarly fix the bug is available from
the Help menu accessed from the paperdoll.
Stat
Reduction Items:
These
items reduce player stats by 1 when used. They are designed to allow
correction of stat bug related problems without GM intervention,
such as stats locking and no longer rising.
They are currently in the small valley near the entrance to Dawn.
Karma
and Fame Removal Items:
These
items set the user's Fame and Karma to 0 when used. They may be
found in the mountain passes leading to the Dawn entrance.
Skill Reduction Item:
This
device allows a character to select a skill and set it to 0 when
used. It is currently in the small valley near the entrance to Dawn.
